During my visit to Pakistan, I witnessed both heartbreak and hope.
I met families working in brick kilns under incredibly difficult conditions. I listened to their stories, held their children, and saw firsthand the daily challenges they face simply to survive.
Many of these families live under a system of debt bondage, where a small debt can keep them trapped for years, and sometimes generations, with little opportunity to break free.
During our visit, we were able to help negotiate the freedom of one family by paying off their debt of approximately $1,100. What may seem like a relatively small amount to many of us represented the difference between continued bondage and the opportunity for a new beginning.
